Topcat K3 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

For the Topcat K3, Kangaroo Sails offers a dedicated mainsail in three cuts. The Beach cut is aimed at leisure sailors, while the Hightech cut with its extra panels suits racers who want more control over the profile; a Decksweeper cut is also available. You decide on cloth, window, battens and colours.

Cuts at a glance

• Beach cut for leisure sailing: panels radiate from the head and clew – 4 from the head, 10 from the clew, plus 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech cut for racing: more panels so the cloth follows the loads better and the profile can be shaped more finely – 6 from the head, 11 from the clew, 1 along the luff. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets made from the sailcloth itself.
• Decksweeper cut: additional cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Cloth choice

• White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth, easy to handle and durable.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core provide high strength and shape retention at low weight, with Mylar film on both sides; all layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar in smoke, white, blue, green or red: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
