Topcat K1 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails, the sail brand of Sven Lindstädt Segeltechnik, builds this Topcat K1 mainsail to your specification. Leisure sailors choose the durable Beach cut, racers the Hightech cut with more panels and a finer profile, and a Decksweeper cut is also available. Cloth, window, battens and colours are chosen to suit your Topcat.

Cuts for the Topcat K1

• Beach – for leisure sailors: radial cut from head and clew with 4 panels from the head, 10 from the clew and 1 along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech – for racing: 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. The extra panels align the cloth better with the loads and improve the profile. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets made from the sailcloth.
• Decksweeper – available as a further cut: the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline, usually with a curved boom. Trampoline and sail act like an end plate and reduce the tip vortices along the foot, giving more height and speed upwind. Widespread in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

• Window: lower panels in window film (Beach and Hightech)

• Battens: none, with battens, or battens for the Decksweeper (DS)
• Qbond option: panels bonded with the Q-Bond process instead of stitched – no needle holes, so lighter, more shape-stable and longer-lasting

Sailcloth

• Dacron (white): woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core give high strength and shape stability at low weight, with Mylar film on the outside; the layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar (smoke, white, blue, green, red): built like Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
