Prindle 19 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

The Prindle 19 mainsail from Kangaroo Sails is made for leisure and racing sailors alike. The Beach cut uses fewer panels and flat, horizontal reinforcements, while the Hightech cut uses more panels and fully bonded reinforcements for a better profile; the Decksweeper is an alternative. You configure the cloth and equipment yourself.

Sail cuts

• Beach – for leisure sailors: radial cut from the head and clew with 4 panels from the head, 10 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech – for racing sailors: radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. The extra panels align the cloth more closely with the loads in the sail and give a better profile. Reinforcements are cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets are made from the same cloth as the sail.
• Decksweeper – available as a further cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Configuration

• Window yes or no – the lower panels are then made of window film (Beach and Hightech)
• Also available in several colours
• Battens: none, with battens, or for the Decksweeper (DS)
• Qbond: yes or no

Sailcloth

• Dacron (white): woven polyester sailcloth that is easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): a laminate for racing and cruising made of three layers bonded under pressure. The Pentex fibre core gives high strength and shape stability at low weight; both outer layers are Mylar film.
• Mylar (smoke, white, blue, green, red): same construction as Pentex, but using polyester fibres.
