A-Cat Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails builds the A-Cat mainsail in three cuts: Beach for leisure sailors, Hightech for racers, and Decksweeper. You then choose the cloth, colour, window and battens – giving you a mainsail that suits your A-Cat and the way you sail it.

Cut options

• Beach cut for leisure sailors: panels radiate from the head and clew – 4 from the head, 10 from the clew, plus 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements and batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech cut for racers: 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. More panels mean a better match to the loads in the sail and a finer profile. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets made from the sailcloth.
• Decksweeper: additional cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Cloth choice

• White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth, easy to handle and durable.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core provide high strength and shape stability at low weight, with two Mylar films outside; all layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar in smoke, white, blue, green or red: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
