Hobie 21 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails, the sail brand of Sven Lindstädt Segeltechnik, makes this Hobie 21 mainsail in three cuts. The Beach cut suits relaxed leisure sailing, the Hightech cut with more panels and a better profile is aimed at racing, and a Decksweeper cut is also available. You choose the cloth, window, battens and colours yourself.

Which cut suits you?

• Beach for relaxed leisure sailing: the panels run radially from head and clew – 4 panels at the head, 10 at the clew and one along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements and white Dacron batten pockets.
• Hightech for the race course: with 6 panels at the head, 11 at the clew and one along the luff, this radial cut handles the loads in the sail better and allows a more precise profile. Reinforcements are cut flat and fully bonded, and the batten pockets use the sailcloth itself.
• Decksweeper: offered as a third cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Cloths

• Dacron: woven polyester cloth in white – easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex: three-layer composite – Pentex fibres in the core, Mylar film on both sides, laminated under pressure – giving high strength and shape stability at low weight for racing and cruising. Available in black, smoke, white and silver.
• Mylar: a laminate on the Pentex principle, but with polyester fibres; in smoke, white, blue, green and red.
