Topcat K2 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

The Topcat K2 mainsail is built by Kangaroo Sails, the sail brand of Sven Lindstädt Segeltechnik, in three cuts. If you sail your K2 for fun off the beach, the Beach cut is the natural choice; for racing there is the Hightech cut with more panels and a better profile, plus a Decksweeper cut. Cloth, window, battens and colours are selected to suit you.

Sail cuts

• Beach – for leisure sailors: radial cut from the head and clew with 4 panels from the head, 10 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech – for racing sailors: radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. The extra panels follow the loads in the sail more closely and give a better profile. Reinforcements are cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets are made from the same cloth as the sail.
• Decksweeper – available as a further cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

• Window: lower panels in window film (possible with Beach and Hightech)

Sailcloth

• Dacron (white): woven polyester sailcloth that is easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. The Pentex fibre core gives high strength and shape stability at low weight, both outer layers are Mylar film, and all layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar (smoke, white, blue, green, red): same construction as Pentex, but using polyester fibres.
