Prindle 18 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails makes the Prindle 18 mainsail in a Beach cut for leisure sailors, a Hightech cut for racers, or as a Decksweeper. The lower panels can be made of window film, and a multi-colour layout is possible too. Cloth and battens are chosen to suit your sailing.

The cuts

• Beach (leisure): radial layout from head and clew – 4 head panels, 10 clew panels, 1 luff panel. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech (racing): radial layout with more panels – 6 head panels, 11 clew panels, 1 luff panel – so the cloth follows the loads more closely and the profile is cleaner. Flat, fully bonded reinforcements; batten pockets in the sailcloth.
• Decksweeper: a further cut you can select. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Cloths

• Dacron: woven polyester cloth in white – easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex: three-layer composite – Pentex fibres in the core, Mylar film on both sides, laminated under pressure – giving high strength and shape stability at low weight for racing and cruising. Available in black, smoke, white and silver.
• Mylar: a laminate on the Pentex principle, but with polyester fibres; in smoke, white, blue, green and red.
