Nacra F17 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

For the Nacra F17, Kangaroo Sails makes a mainsail that you configure step by step: first the cut – Beach, Hightech or Decksweeper – then cloth, window, battens and Qbond. The result is a sail that suits leisure sailing or racing.

Sail cuts

• Beach – for leisure sailors: radial cut from the head and clew with 4 panels from the head, 10 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech – for racing sailors: radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 panels from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. The extra panels align the cloth more closely with the loads in the sail and give a better profile. Reinforcements are cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets are made from the same cloth as the sail.
• Decksweeper – available as a further cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Options to choose

• Window-film lower panels (for Beach and Hightech)
• Multi-colour panels possible
• Batten options: no battens, standard battens or battens for DS (Decksweeper)
• With or without Qbond

Cloth choice

• White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth, pleasant to handle and durable.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core provide high strength and shape retention at low weight, with Mylar film on both sides; all layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar in smoke, white, blue, green or red: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
