Nacra 5.7 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Does your Nacra 5.7 need a new mainsail? Kangaroo Sails makes the Nacra 5.7 mainsail in a Beach cut for leisure sailors, a Hightech cut for racers, or as a Decksweeper. Dacron, Pentex or Mylar cloth, window and colours are chosen to suit how you use the boat.

Cuts at a glance

• Beach cut for leisure sailing: panels radiate from the head and clew – 4 from the head, 10 from the clew, plus 1 panel along the luff. Reinforcements are flat and horizontal, and the batten pockets are made of white Dacron.
• Hightech cut for racing: more panels so the cloth follows the loads better and the profile can be shaped more finely – 6 from the head, 11 from the clew, 1 along the luff. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets made from the sailcloth itself.
• Decksweeper cut: additional cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

• Window yes or no – the lower panels are then made of window film (Beach and Hightech)

Cloth choice

• White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth, pleasant to handle and durable.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core provide high strength and shape retention at low weight, with Mylar film on both sides; all layers are bonded under pressure.
• Mylar in smoke, white, blue, green or red: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
