Hobie 20 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails makes the Hobie 20 mainsail in three cuts. The Beach cut suits leisure sailing, the Hightech cut with extra panels is for racing, and a Decksweeper version is also available. You specify the cloth, colour, window and battens when you order.

Cut options

• Beach for leisure sailors: radial cut from the head and clew – 4 panels from the head, 10 from the clew, 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech for racing sailors: radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. The extra panels align the cloth better with the loads in the sail and give a better profile. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets in the same cloth as the sail.
• Decksweeper: further cut option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Sailcloth

• Dacron in white: woven polyester sailcloth, good handling, long life.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a laminate for racing and cruising sailors, three layers bonded under pressure with Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight and Mylar film outside.
• Mylar in smoke, white, blue, green or red: built like Pentex, with polyester fibres.
