Hobie 16 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

The Hobie 16 mainsail from Kangaroo Sails is made in three cuts: the Beach cut for leisure sailors, the Hightech cut for racers, and as a Decksweeper. You choose the cloth, colours, window and battens to suit your Hobie 16 and your sailing waters.

Cut options

• Beach: for leisure sailors. Radial cut from the head and clew with 4 panels from the head, 10 from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. Reinforcements are flat and horizontal, batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech: for racing sailors. Radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. The extra panels spread the loads in the sail better across the cloth and give a better profile. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded, batten pockets in the same cloth as the sail.
• Decksweeper: available as a further option. On a Decksweeper the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline (usually with a curved boom): sail and trampoline act like an end plate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot for better pointing and speed upwind. Widely used in racing since the 2017 F18 Worlds.

Sailcloth

• Dacron (white): woven polyester sailcloth with good handling and a long life.
• Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising, with Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight and Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure.
• Mylar (smoke, white, blue, green, red): laminate built like Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
