Product information "Goodall Design Akurra Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails"
The Goodall Design Akurra mainsail is part of the Kangaroo Sails Formula 18 racing range. Its design draws on over 20 years of sailing experience and countless hours on the water.
Sail cuts
- Beach – for the relaxed leisure sailor: radial cut with 4 panels from the head, 10 from the clew and 1 panel along the luff. Batten pockets in white Dacron, lower panels optionally in window film, multi-colour layout possible. Flat reinforcements.
- Hightech / Decksweeper – for racing sailors: radial cut with 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. More panels in the head and foot give an optimal profile. Batten pockets in the same cloth as the sail, window and multi-colour design possible, reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded.
- How a decksweeper works: the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline, usually with a curved boom. Trampoline and sail then act like an endplate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot – for better pointing and more speed upwind. The “DS” battens are made for the decksweeper.
Hightech and Decksweeper share the same profile and panel layout; the Hightech sail is the standard version without the decksweeper.
Options
- Cut: Beach, Hightech or Decksweeper
- Window: yes or no
- Battens: none, with battens, or battens for the Decksweeper (DS)
- Measurement: optional
- Qbond option: panels bonded under high pressure using the Q-Bond process (Q-Bond AB, Sweden) instead of being stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer
Sailcloth
- Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver, red): for racing and leisure sailing. A three-layer laminate – the Pentex fibre core provides high strength and shape stability at low weight, and the Mylar film outer layers are bonded under pressure.
- Mylar (white, blue, green): same structure as Pentex, with polyester fibres.
- Dacron (white): woven polyester sailcloth, pleasant to handle and long-lasting.
