Nacra F16 Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

The Nacra F16 mainsail from Kangaroo Sails is available for leisure and racing sailors alike. Leisure sailors choose the Beach cut, while Formula 16 racers can opt for the Hightech or Decksweeper cut with more panels and a better profile. The sail can be measured on request, and you put together the cloth, window, battens and colours individually.

The cuts

• Beach – for the leisure sailor: panels radiating from the head and clew, 4 from the head, 10 from the clew and 1 along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements and batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech or Decksweeper – for the racing sailor: 6 panels from the head, 11 from the clew and 1 along the luff. The higher panel count matches the cloth more closely to the loads and allows finer profile shaping. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets in the same cloth as the sail.
• How a decksweeper works: the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline, usually with a curved boom. Trampoline and sail then act like an endplate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot – for better pointing and more speed upwind. The “DS” battens are made for the decksweeper.

Cloths

• Dacron in white: woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: three-layer laminate bonded under pressure for racing and cruising, with Pentex fibres in the core and Mylar film outside – high strength and shape stability at low weight.
• Mylar in smoke, blue, white, green or red: built like Pentex, with polyester fibres.
