Product information "Tornado Classic Jib - Kangaroo Sails"
For the Tornado Classic, Kangaroo Sails offers a newly built jib in three cuts. Leisure sailors are well served by the Easy cut, the Beach cut suits leisure and club racing, and the Hightech cut is designed for racers. Cloth, colour, battens and window are chosen to match. The jib is for the Tornado with the original rig – single trapeze, no gennaker – as sailed before the 2001 rule change.
Cuts at a glance
- Easy cut: durable white Dacron with panels at right angles to the leech. This gives few seams that can fail and keeps the sail economical to produce. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; window possible.
- Beach cut: panels radiating from the head, tack and clew, 2 from the head and 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail, and the sail needs only a few seams. Window-film panels possible. Radial reinforcements.
- Hightech cut: more panels, again radial – 3 from the head, 6 from the clew, 1 from the tack. The cloth follows the loads more closely and the profile can be shaped more finely. Radially cut, fully bonded reinforcements; window film possible.
Equipment
- Window: optional
- Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
- Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the patented Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.
Cloth choice
- White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth with good handling and a long life.
- Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): a composite of three layers bonded under pressure for racing and cruising sailors – Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, Mylar film outside.
- Mylar (smoke, blue, white, green, red): laminate with the same construction, but polyester fibres.
Compatible with
- Tornado Classic (original rig, single trapeze, no gennaker)
With the rig introduced in 2001 (Tornado 2004: double trapeze, gennaker, flat-top mainsail) the jib was recut as well – longer luff, shorter foot, sheeted to the front beam. For that rig, choose the Tornado 2004 jib.
