Product information "Tornado 2004 Jib - Kangaroo Sails"
Kangaroo Sails builds the Tornado 2004 jib in three cuts – from the robust Easy cut to the Hightech cut with radial panels for racing. It is made for the rig the Tornado class introduced in 2001 and sailed at the 2004 Olympic Games: double trapeze, gennaker and a flat-top mainsail. The jib on this rig has a longer luff and a shorter foot than the original Tornado jib and is sheeted to the front beam. Cloth and colour, battens, window and Qbond are put together to suit your Tornado.
Cut options
- Easy for leisure sailors: durable white Dacron with panels at right angles to the leech. Fewer panels mean fewer seams that can fail and an economical build. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; window possible.
- Beach for leisure and club racing: panels radiate from the head, tack and clew – 2 from the head, 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail and there are only a few seams. Some panels can be made in window film. Radial reinforcements.
- Hightech for racing: radial cut with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. The extra panels match the cloth even more closely to the loads and allow a finer profile. Reinforcements cut radially and fully bonded; window panels possible.
Options
- Window: yes or no
- Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight battens
- Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the patented Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.
Sailcloth
- Dacron in white: woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
- Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: a three-layer laminate for racing and cruising. The Pentex fibre core provides high strength and shape stability at low weight, with Mylar film on the outside; all layers are bonded under pressure.
- Mylar in smoke, blue, white, green or red: built like Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
Compatible with
- Tornado 2004 (rig from 2001 with double trapeze and gennaker)
For a Tornado with the original rig (single trapeze, no gennaker), choose the Tornado Classic jib.
