Prindle 18-2 Jib - Kangaroo Sails

The Prindle 18-2 jib from Kangaroo Sails is made in three cuts and can be specified with your choice of cloth, colour, battens and window. Leisure sailors go for the Easy cut, club racers for the Beach cut and racing sailors for the Hightech cut.

Cuts

• Easy: durable white Dacron with panels at right angles to the leech. The small number of panels means few seams that can fail and an economical build. Flat, horizontal reinforcements; window possible.
• Beach: radial cut from the head, tack and clew with 2 panels from the head and 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail and there are only a few seams. Some panels can be made in window film. Radial reinforcements.
• Hightech: radial cut with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. The higher panel count matches the cloth better to the loads and allows a finer profile. Radially cut, fully bonded reinforcements; window panels possible.

Equipment

• Window: optional
• Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight battens
• Qbond option: panels bonded with the Q-Bond process instead of stitched – no needle holes, so lighter, more shape-stable and longer-lasting

Cloth choice

• Dacron in white – woven polyester sailcloth with good handling and a long life.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver – three-layer laminate for racing and cruising: Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure.
• Mylar in smoke, blue, white, green or red – a laminate with the same construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
