Nacra 500 Jib - Kangaroo Sails

For the Nacra 500, Kangaroo Sails offers a new jib in three cuts. Leisure sailors are well served by the robust Easy cut, the Beach cut is a good fit for club racing, and those who race choose the Hightech cut. Cloth, colour, battens and window complete the configuration.

Cut options for the Nacra 500

• Easy: durable white Dacron, panels at right angles to the leech. Few panels, few seams that can fail, economical to build. Flat, horizontal reinforcements.
• Beach: radial cut with panels from the head, tack and clew – 2 from the head, 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is matched to the loads in the sail, with few seams. Radial reinforcements.
• Hightech: radial cut with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. More panels give a better match to the loads and finer profiling. Reinforcements cut radially and fully bonded.

Configuration

• Cloth: white Dacron, Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver) or Mylar (smoke, blue, white, green, red)
• Window: yes or no, possible with all cuts
• Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
• Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the patented Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.

Cloths

• Dacron: woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
• Pentex: laminate for racing and cruising made of three layers – Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure.
• Mylar: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
