Product information "Hobie 18 Jib - Kangaroo Sails"

You configure a new Hobie 18 jib from Kangaroo Sails to suit your needs: choose one of three sail cuts, Dacron, Pentex or Mylar in various colours, and the batten and window option that fits. Your Hobie 18 is then ready for leisure sailing or racing.

Cuts compared

  • Easy cut – leisure sailors: panels at right angles to the leech, made from durable white Dacron. Few panels, few seams that can fail, economical to build. Flat, horizontal reinforcements.
  • Beach cut – leisure and club racing: radial from the head, tack and clew with 2 panels from the head and 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail and there are only a few seams. Radial reinforcements.
  • Hightech cut – racing: radial with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. More panels align the cloth better with the loads and allow a more finely profiled sail. Radial, fully bonded reinforcements.

Cloths and colours

  • Dacron (white) – woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting
  • Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver) – three-layer laminate for racing and cruising: Pentex fibres in the core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, two Mylar films outside, bonded under pressure
  • Mylar (smoke, blue, white, green, red) – built like Pentex, with polyester fibres

Options

  • Window-film panels possible with every cut
  • Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
  • Qbond option: panels bonded with the patented Q-Bond process instead of stitched – no needle holes, so lighter, more shape-stable and longer-lasting
