Product information "Hobie 17 Jib - Kangaroo Sails"

Kangaroo Sails makes this jib for the Hobie 17 in three cuts, so leisure sailors will find the right sail just as easily as club and regatta racers. You decide on the cloth, colour, batten type and window.

The three cuts

  • Easy: for leisure sailors, made from durable white Dacron. The panels lie at right angles to the leech, so there are few seams that can fail and the sail is economical to make. Reinforcements are flat and horizontal.
  • Beach: for leisure and club racing sailors. The panels radiate from the head, tack and clew – 2 from the head, 6 from the tack and clew. This aligns the cloth with the loads in the sail, and the sail needs only a few seams. Radial reinforcements.
  • Hightech: for racing sailors. Radial cut with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack; the higher panel count follows the loads better and allows finer profiling. Reinforcements are cut radially and fully bonded.

Options

  • Window (window-film panels) possible with all cuts
  • Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
  • Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the patented Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.

Sailcloth

  • Dacron in white: woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
  • Pentex in black, smoke, white or silver: three-layer laminate – Pentex fibre core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure. For racing and cruising.
  • Mylar in smoke, blue, white, green or red: the same laminate construction, but with polyester fibres.

Compatible with

  • Hobie 17 Sport – the jib-rigged version of the Hobie 17 (the basic Hobie 17 is a single-handed cat rig without a jib)
boattype: Hobie 17
