Hobie 14 Jib - Kangaroo Sails

The Hobie 14 jib from Kangaroo Sails is offered in three cuts, each aimed at a different type of sailor: Easy for leisure sailing, Beach for leisure and club racing, and Hightech for racing. On top of that you choose the sailcloth, battens, an optional window and the Qbond option.

Which cut suits you?

• Easy: panels at right angles to the leech, in durable white Dacron. With few panels there are few seams that can fail – the sail is robust and economical to make. Flat, horizontal reinforcements.
• Beach: radial cut with panels coming from the head, tack and clew (2 from the head, 6 from the tack and clew). The benefit: the cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail, and there are only a few seams. Radial reinforcements.
• Hightech: radial, with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. More panels align the cloth better with the loads and allow a finer profile. Reinforcements radial and fully bonded.

Sailcloth and colours

• Dacron white – woven polyester cloth, easy to handle and durable
• Pentex black, smoke, white or silver – three-layer laminate with a Pentex fibre core and Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure; high strength and shape stability at low weight, for racing and cruising
• Mylar smoke, blue, white, green or red – laminate with polyester fibres, otherwise built like Pentex

• Window: possible with all three cuts
• Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
• Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the patented Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.

• Hobie 14 Turbo – the jib-rigged version of the Hobie 14 (the standard Hobie 14 is a mainsail-only cat rig)
