AHPC Taipan Mainsail - Kangaroo Sails

Kangaroo Sails developed this AHPC Taipan mainsail specifically for the F16 class. It is easy to trim and can be made in three cuts: Beach for leisure sailors, Hightech for racers, or as a Decksweeper. It can be supplied measured on request.

Cut options

• Beach for leisure sailors: panels radiate from the head and clew – 4 from the head, 10 from the clew, plus 1 panel along the luff. Flat, horizontal reinforcements and batten pockets in white Dacron.
• Hightech for racing sailors: more panels for a better match to the loads in the sail and a finer profile – 6 from the head, 11 from the clew, 1 along the luff. Reinforcements cut flat and fully bonded; batten pockets made from the sailcloth itself.
• Decksweeper: the foot reaches down to just above the trampoline, usually with a curved boom. Trampoline and sail then act like an endplate, reducing the tip vortices along the foot – for better pointing and more speed upwind. The “DS” battens are made for the decksweeper.

Equipment

• Window film in the lower panels possible (Beach and Hightech)
• Multi-colour panel layout possible
• Battens: none, with battens, or the Decksweeper (DS) version
• Measurement: optional
• Qbond on request

Cloth choice

• White Dacron: woven polyester sailcloth, easy to handle and durable.
• Pentex in black, smoke, white, silver or red: a laminate of three layers bonded under pressure, for racing and cruising. Pentex fibres in the core provide high strength and shape stability at low weight, with two Mylar films outside.
• Mylar in white, blue or green: the same laminate construction as Pentex, but with polyester fibres.
