Product information "Flying Phantom Jib - Kangaroo Sails"

Kangaroo Sails makes this jib for the Flying Phantom in three cuts. Leisure sailors get the Easy cut, leisure and club racing sailors the Beach cut, and racers the Hightech cut. You choose the cloth, colour, battens, window and Qbond option to suit your boat.

Cuts compared

  • Easy: durable white Dacron, panels at right angles to the leech. Because the cut uses few panels, there are few seams that can fail and the build is economical. Flat, horizontal reinforcements.
  • Beach: radial cut with panels from the head, tack and clew – 2 from the head, 6 from the tack and clew. The cloth is aligned with the loads in the sail, and the sail has few seams. Radial reinforcements.
  • Hightech: radial cut with 3 panels from the head, 6 from the clew and 1 from the tack. The extra panels let the cloth follow the loads even better, and the profile can be set more finely. Reinforcements cut radially and fully bonded.

Cloths

  • Dacron (white): woven polyester sailcloth, easy to handle and long-lasting.
  • Pentex (black, smoke, white, silver): three-layer laminate for racing and cruising – a Pentex fibre core for high strength and shape stability at low weight, Mylar film outside, bonded under pressure.
  • Mylar (smoke, blue, white, green, red): laminate like Pentex, but with polyester fibres.

Options

  • Window: window-film panels possible with all three cuts
  • Battens: full-length, for a furling system, or straight
  • Qbond option (yes or no): the panels are joined with the Q-Bond process, bonded under high pressure instead of stitched – no needle holes, so the sail is lighter, holds its shape better and lasts longer.
